Over the past several years, many have experienced a crunch during tax season as it takes longer to gather the documents required to prepare your tax returns. With the time it takes to get all your data and the increasing complexity of the return, it can be hard to complete your return before April 15.
If you receive K-1s, or other tax documents that are distributed later in the tax season, filing an extension can take the pressure off the April 15 deadline. If you are hesitant to visit the office currently, but prefer an in-person appointment, an extension can be filed and an appointment scheduled after tax season.
If you choose to file an extension, your tax preparer will review your tax information in January and file an extension at that time. An extension extends the deadline to file until October 15, but does not extend the deadline to pay. If it is anticipated that a balance will be due, your preparer will let you know the amount that needs to be paid prior to April 15. Anyone can file an extension, and if your return is completed by April 15, there is no penalty for having filed the extension.
Please email us or call our office to find out if filing an extension makes sense for you.
