Today, the US Treasury announced that they are moving Tax Day from April 15 to July 15, giving all taxpayers and businesses an additional three months to file and make payments without interest or penalties. The new deadline announced applies to federal income tax returns and payments only. We will monitor if states follow with similar filing deadline extensions.
Since our communication earlier this week regarding our office closure to clients, many of you have contacted us regarding the completion of your 2019 tax return. For those of you with work in progress as of this week, we continue to process returns, and upon completion of your return we will be sending the forms required to e-file your return either by mail or through our online client portal.
If we have not already started your return, we are offering the following options:
Our secure client portal is available to all clients for electronic transmission of files. Clients can upload their paperwork and complete the signatures required to electronically file their tax return remotely.
Clients may use USPS, FedEx, or UPS to send in their paperwork and return their signed e-file forms.
At this time, we are not offering in person appointments. When appointments become available, we will send an email communication. You can email or call our office to be put on a list to be contacted for an appointment
Many of you have sent us your tax documents through the client portal or by USPS, FedEx, or UPS. Although it may take more time than normal, we will continue to process returns and will be contacting you with any questions and to review the results of the return.
In addition, like you, we have been closely monitoring the Government’s response to coronavirus (COVID-19), including the availability of resources to assist individuals and businesses during this time.
This week, the President signed the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which expands the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). In addition, the Treasury Department has outlined a proposed stimulus package to further assist individuals and businesses.
Details of the new Act, as well as the proposed stimulus are outlined below.
Our office remains closed to clients. At this time, the best ways to reach us are by phone at 847-367-0888 or by email at taxpreparation@kakenmaster.com. If you receive our voicemail, please leave a message in the general mailbox and all messages will be responded to within one business day.
